Matthew Baffington’s father, Templeton Baffington, was a well-known signpainter during the Great Depression. He convinced store owners to revitalize their signs in order to bring in business. Matthew learned the art of marketing from his dad, who painted signs for such prestigious establishments as Woolworth’s, Spanky’s One-Stop, and soup kitchens across southern Indiana. Eventually the Baffington family settled in Oak River. Matthew worked for his father until neon technology came along and crushed Templeton Baffington’s sign business.
Soon after, Matthew Baffington began to sell Spectrum vacuums to the good residents of Wilsonville County. While visiting Carpenter’s Appliance in Oak River, he was taken back by the magic of television and its power to captivate. Matthew acquired his first Pictolux television, and it changed his life forever.
Soon after, Mathew Baffington took his only client, Pucker’s Pickles, and relocated to the “big city” of Charlotte, NC. From there, Baffington became a well-known regional name in mastering the magic of radio and television marketing.
In the late ’80’s, he partnered with well-known practitioner of technology, Earnest Sellers, for expedited financial gain. The combination of Baffington’s technological prowess and the art of mastering the radio and television waves, coupled with Sellers’ extraordinary appearance was found to be explosive, and business began to boom. They found quick success in the marketing of alternative generic products over the radio and television waves, in such products as Juke Shorts (a competitor of Jams), High-B (an intelligent alternative to Hi-C), and Three-Ring Grasper (a rival to Mead’s Trapper Keeper).
